About Katie
I completed a Bachelor of Science (Environmental) at Monash University, where I also completed First Class Honours in rainforest ecology. I then worked in waste management in local government in Victoria, Australia for several years. During this time I commenced a Masters of Sustainable Development at the University of Queensland. As part of this degree, I was offered a scholarship to study at the University of British Columbia at the Institute For Resources Environment And Sustainability. I lived in Vancouver for a year, then spent time travelling in Latin America, after which time I moved to London. While in the UK, I worked as an environmental consultant for a number years, assisting with the implementation of EU Directives at the local and regional level.
After observing human behaviour during this time, I was intrigued enough to undertake a PhD in social science at James Cook University. I travelled home via another long stint in Latin America, seeking to improve upon my Spanish. Although wanting to undertake my research in Latin America, I decided to focus my efforts on private land conservation motivations in an Australian context. Upon finishing the degree, I completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Canberra, where I led a project on mental model elicitation. I have since been employed at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, where I'm a Senior Lecturer in critical analysis. I work across the globe with collaborators seeking improved socioecological outcomes across a range of contexts, which I enjoy immensely.
